~Dove Stone~
9th October 2010
Simon Howard invited me and others on a Peak District Walk. We started from Binn Green car park on the northwest side of Dovestone Reservoir, there was a dull, grey sky and a strong easterly breeze.

Yeoman Hey Reservoir
Nine of us assembled and set off down to this dam and crossed over to the east side of Dovestone Reservoir.
Dovestone Reservoir and Alderman's Hill
The car park is over there above the forest, beneath the hill.
Location
This information board which I've used to show the location is in place to show the "Life for a Life" memorial tree planting scheme.
Walkers
On the up, adjacent to Rams Clough (l). Note the tarmac track on the other side of Chew Brook, we'll be there later.
Looking Back
It's a pity that the photos cannot easily portray the affect of the wind, it was fierce!
Across the top
The wind was so severe, we had difficulty standing up and certainly couldn't talk to each other. Walkers were seen on the floor on more than one occasion.
Chew Beck
Chew Beck
This photo shows our route across the top from "Indian's Head" to the top of Chew Beck, where the Chew Reservoir dam holds back the water. We made a decision not to complete the originally planned walk across the Dish Stone and Dove Stone Mosses due to the very strong and uncomfortable wind. We would return along the reservoir access road.

I'm taking the photo, where's Lesley? We're in an old stone quarry.
Return Route
Indian's Head
Dovestone Reservoir
The day has brightened up, the wind has less effect in the valley.
Walkers, where's Lesley?

Weather and conditions: Extremely windy on the tops. Dullness easing to a brighter sky.
Greetings Count: Plenty of walkers around, especially around Chew Reservoir and then later on our return to Dovestone Reservoir, we met the locals enjoying a great local facility.
Richard's Refreshment Review: I popped into cousin Juliet's home in Grotton where I had a brew. Great, thanks Juliet if you're looking.
There's Lesley!
Thanks, Simon, for taking the trouble to organise the walk. Also welcome to Mike and Louise, it's not easy coming along to a group walk like this and meeting folk for the first time. I hope you enjoyed the day despite the testing conditions.
